Aarwangen, Bern Canton, CH

Aarwangen sits at the north of the beautiful Jura Mountain Range. The snow and the rain run down from these mountains into the Aare river, which is the life blood of this little village as well as surrounding villages.

I found the people here to be very friendly. In fact, on the train I ask the conductor for help and he told me to get off in two stops. However, there was a lady that couldn't help but overhear and she told me that I needed to get off at the next stop. I resisted but she insisted that she knew this area and she knew where the church was and this is where I wanted to get off. I didn't know what to do, because time was so short I didn't want to make a mistake. I felt good about following her and got off with her.

Together we walked along the tracks for a short while and then down one of the roads. She explained that the house on the left was where her brother lived and that was where she was going. She didn't stop. She kept walking and I questioned her. "I want to make sure you get to the church okay", she replied. In just a couple more blocks we were at the church but there was no one around. She waited. I told her I would just look around and take pictures but she knew I had an appointment and wanted to make sure he came. She stayed with me until I got a hold of the paster's wife and she came to meet with me. Where in today's world do you find strangers so willing to be friends if not in Aarwangen?

Tere are many Gygax's and Huber's in the nearby town of Bleienbach just outside of Langenthal.
