Kirchberg AG Church, Parish for the towns of Küttigen and Biberstein

This is the beautiful view you will see driving the main road between Kuettigen on the west and Biberstein on the east.
In February the view is not as green, but it is still a great time to visit.  Driving the road you can see the church from both the north and the south.  The churches perched on the hills are a breathtaking view for quit a distance.
This is the congregations view.
The stand on the wall to the left is
meant for the preacher, although
when we poked our heads into
the Scherzingen Church, the pastor
was preaching from the floor.
My Wehrli ancestors came from Kuettigen, Aargau Canton, Switzerland.  They were members of the Reformed Evangishe Church which is beautiful building built on a hill between the towns of Biberstein and Küttigen.

These are in the center front of the Ref. Evang.
Churches,  but most have a top that can be
lifted with items for baptism inside.
According to the Church website the first mentioned in a document that dates back to 1036.  In 1500 a new building was built and the first reformed preacher for the Kirchberg group was put in place in 1529.  Towers on the churches were not added until later.  The Kirchberg tower was added about 1850 but appears to have been renovated since it was first added.  Usually the area of the church that my ancestors would have attended would be the small part of the church.  The stain glass windows were added in the mid 1950's so they are not pertinent to my ancestors.

The flower arrangement sits
on top of the baptistry stand
shown above.
My ancestors would not have enjoyed the beautiful organ either.  Additions of organs into the meetings was also added later.  The first Reformed meetings would have only enjoyed vocal music.

This church is by no means one of the most elaborate of churches in the area.  I much prefer the look of the Reformed Churches over the Catholic in the area.  My upbringing does not have all of the visuals that are included in the Catholic decor so I am more comfortable when the decorations follow the Reformed religion.

There are 75 parishes currently in the Canton of Aargau.  Kirchberg is only one of those.  The people from Kuettigen and Biberstein still are in the Kirchberg Parish, as they were when my ancestors lived there.

The burial grounds around the churches are wonderful.  The plots only measure about 18"x36" and consists of
just a headstone with a little decorative area and walking space.   Most people, I believe, are cremated.

Even then the cemetery's headstones are removed about every 25 years  for the next ones to have a place.
I believe the family can then take the headstone or it will simply be destroyed.

This is a little area across the road from the church
As it was raining we did not get out and look at it.

The Kirchberg Parish Church - which is located in Kuettigen, below the camera., and unseen in this shot.
In the distance on the left is Biberstein and the  Aare River which runs alongside it.
The city of Aarau is in the distance to the right.
